God of War Ragnarok: Unlock and use Draupnir Spear - Game Guide

Unlock and equip spear

The Draupnir Spear is the third weapon Kratos can wield in God of War Ragnarök, after the Leviathan Ax and the Chaos Blades. But while you get the ax and blades relatively early in the story, the Draupnir Spear is a bit of a wait. So how do you get him?

In fact, you have to make some significant progress in the story first. You unlock the spear automatically during the story mission Forging Fate. We had reached this point in the story after about 13 hours of play. So you only get the Draupnir spear at the beginning of the last third of the story.

To equip the spear in combat, you must press the directional button down on your digipad.

The Draupnir spear can do that

The spear also gives you your first weapon with the wind element. Some enemies in the game are vulnerable to wind or have a protective shield, which you can best eliminate with the wind element.

You can throw the spear like the axe, but you can't recall it. Instead, a new spear spawns in your hand and you can explode the thrown spears by pressing the triangle button. For example, you can first throw five spears at an opponent and then detonate them all in a row. This deals damage and also interrupts weaker enemies in their actions.

Spears are especially useful for fighting swift enemies, such as animals, because of their range. Especially when fighting dragons, you should use the Draupnir spear. If they fall on you from the air, you can hit them with a well-aimed javelin throw and stun them.

Last but not least, you can also shoot gusts of wind with a spear (L2 + R2). So you can push enemies perfectly over chasms and turn them off quickly.
