In God of War: Ragnarok, you can find 5 shields, for which you will receive the Phalanx trophy. Shields can be seen in the weapon menu. None of these items are missable, you can find the missed items after completing the story by continuing to explore the world. To get the trophy, only shields are required, attachments for them (Rönds) do not need to be collected.
The first 3 shields are the easiest to get - they are crafted at the blacksmith. The fourth you will automatically unlock during the passage of the story. The fifth can be found in a legendary chest or later crafted at a blacksmith.
Where to find Dauntless Shield
Can be bought at the blacksmith shop.
Shield Bash: Press L1 twice to perform a strong stun effect with a shield strike. Parry to stun the attacker and empower the next blow with a shield. Accurately time your parry to greatly enhance this effect.
Where to find Stone Wall Shield
Can be bought at the blacksmith shop.
Shield Slam: Press L1 twice to use a powerful shield slam that knocks back enemies when the skill is fully charged. Block attacks to absorb the blow and build up a charge. Guard-piercing attacks can be blocked when the skill is not fully charged.
Where to find the Shatter Star Shield
Can be bought at the blacksmith shop.
Shield Punch: Press L1 twice to perform a shield punch and knock enemies back. Strength is increased when fully charged. Hold L1 to charge the shield. Blocking attacks drains some of the charge. If you perform a shield strike right before attacking a hero, you can absorb damage and gain a skill charge.
Where to find Guardian Shield
The shield is obtained automatically from Sindri and Brock at the start of Main Quest 08: The Word of Fate.
Shield Check: Press L1 twice to quickly check an enemy with a shield and break their defenses. Parry and then immediately press R1 or R2 to launch special counterattacks.
Where to find the Onslaught Shield
The final shield can be found in the legendary chest right after the Garm boss fight in Helheim. If you forget to pick it up here, it will automatically appear in the forge. You will have to spend 7500 chopped silver (Hacksilver) to make it. You will not be able to return to this part of Helheim after completing the story.
Shield Rush: Press L1 twice to perform a shield slam on the enemy in front, blocking incoming attacks. Use from a greater distance to knock up enemies on impact.
These are all shields in God of War: Ragnarok. After you get the last one, the "Phalanx" achievement will be unlocked.
What shield to choose at the beginning of the game?
Kratos is best known for his aggression and rage, but in God of War: Ragnarok you can go the other way - to fight intelligently and protect yourself and your allies. That's what a shield is for.
At the start of the game, the very first shield, the one given to Kratos by his beloved wife, will be damaged during the battle. Brock will offer you to choose one of two options: Fearlessness Shield or Stonewall Shield .
There is a problem here. At this stage of the game, you are still figuring out which fighting style suits you best and which shield option is best.
If you are patiently watching and waiting for the enemies to attack, then choose Stonewall Shield . This way you will be able to absorb incoming hits and strike back as soon as the enemy has finished their streak without having to accurately time your actions.
If you're spamming the attack button, hitting first, then asking questions, choose Fearless Shield . Constant risk will put you in situations where you need to parry quickly.
But if something goes wrong, you can freely switch between different shields at any time.
As you get more comfortable with combat, you can combine your shield's features with some of the armor in God of War: Ragnarok to get buffs that further improve your playstyle.
For example, in the later stages of the game, you can get armor that increases the damage dealt by your shield or splash damage to all enemies around you when parrying.
What is a shield frame?
The shield frame is the circle in the center that grants buffs or additional abilities that trigger when you block, parry, or hit enemies with your shield.
Skeletons can be found in all nine worlds of God of War: Ragnarok, in loot stashes, as a boss kill reward, or purchased from Brok and Sindri's shops.
