Xbox Game Pass: How to cancel and turn off recurring billing

Xbox Game Pass is a well-known subscription service that allows you to play hundreds of titles without having to buy them. It can be a great way to try games before you try them, or finish the latest titles as soon as they come out.

The Microsoft library has a large selection of games but, basically, it is renewed every month, which is not always the cheapest way to enjoy the gaming medium. Here's how to cancel recurring billing in your Xbox Game Pass subscription.

XBOX GAME PASS: HOW TO TURN OFF RECURRING BILLING

The best time to cancel your subscription is as soon as you activate one. It might seem like a paradox to you, but this will allow you to download and play all the games you want until your subscription reaches its natural expiry, allowing you not to pay again immediately after.

You can do this directly from the console, as long as you have already completed your purchase of an Xbox Game Pass subscription. These are the necessary steps:

  • Press the Xbox button on the controller
  • From here, go to Profile & System -> Settings
  • Select Account -> Subscriptions
  • Select the option to cancel recurring billing next to the subscription you want to cancel

WHAT HAPPENS IF I CANCEL MY SUBSCRIPTION?

By canceling your subscription, you will still keep your subscription active until the end of the month. Doing so will simply turn off recurring billing, so you won't have to pay again at the end of the month, with auto-renewal, if you don't want to keep your subscription. At the end of the month or the natural duration of the subscription, you will stop having access to the Xbox Game Pass library and, if you want to go back to it, you will have to purchase a new subscription. Often, thanks to the various offers on the net, it is cheaper to buy a new subscription than to let the existing one renew automatically, so consider this idea.
