CD Projekt hopes the Cyberpunk franchise will develop in the same way as The Witcher

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was undoubtedly a landmark in the gaming industry and is still considered one of the best role-playing games to ever hit the market. However, in order to reach this level, the franchise had to go through a lot of evolution.

And while Cyberpunk 2077 didn't turn out to be the game CD Projekt wanted it to be, the Polish studio says it was just its first attempt at creating a cyberpunk universe and hopes the franchise will develop in the same way as The Witcher.

Think about The Witcher games and how much they changed with each game. We want a similar evolution to happen here too. Cyberpunk 2077 was our first foray into a futuristic sci-fi world with a ton of new gameplay mechanics, narrative tone, story, and art direction.

Something happened almost immediately: design, city design, sound, a system of interactive scenes and gameplay features. Other aspects such as character development, NPC interactivity, and optimization required much more time. It's natural: you can't do everything on the first try. Now that all the elements of the game are built and working well, we'll focus on tying them together even more and creating a cohesive, fully immersive gameplay experience.

The free 2.0 update and Phantom Liberty expansion seem to have set the franchise in the right direction, receiving a much more positive response from players. The sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 has already been announced, but there are no details yet.
