CoD Modern Warfare 3 (2023): How to watch the post-credits scene and explanation

We explain what you need to do to see the secret post-credits scene of the Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 (2023) campaign, what happens in it, and what its explanation is.

The main campaign of Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 (2023) concludes leaving quite a few loose ends, but you may not know that there is a final post-credits scene that throws up even more questions for players. In this entry of our guide, we are going to explain how you can see this secret scene and we will also talk to you about its possible meaning within the plot of this Activision FPS saga.

How to watch the secret post-credits scene?

After completing all missions in the Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 (2023) campaign, players have the opportunity to watch a post-credits ending scene that is secret, and we say it's "secret" because you can accidentally skip it.

In order to see this scene you have to take the following into account:

  • You must play the entire campaign until mission 14, "Trojan Horse."
  • After this, also complete the special mission "Countdown".
  • Upon completing this mission the game credits will begin.
  • DO NOT skip the credits, wait a few minutes and the post-credits scene will begin shortly.

Specifically, this post-credits scene is located in the middle of the game's end credits, or rather just after the opening credits. If you wait a while during the first few minutes of the credits (until a photo of Soap appears in the background ), the letters will scroll past and the scene we were talking about will begin.

On the contrary, if after starting the credits you decide to skip them, you will immediately return to the mission selection menu and you will no longer have the opportunity to see the hidden scene.

After watching this post-credits scene, the game continues with the rest of the credits of the Activision production on a black background, but in this case you can skip them without worrying about missing anything because there will be no "secrets" left to see.

Explanation of the post-credits scene

  • Be careful, the following contains spoilers for the story of CoD: MW 3 (2023) until its ending and post-credits scene.
In the post-credits scene of Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 (2023) we see how Captain Price surprises General Sheperd in the middle of the night in his own office and, after a brief and tense conversation, John shoots Sheperd at point-blank range with a pistol with a silencer, killing him.

Naturally, we can deduce that what has led Captain Price to commit this murder is a feeling of revenge for the recent death of his companion, John "Soap" MacTavish, at the hands of Makarov. Not to forget that Price already had Sheperd in his sights for his actions committed in the previous game of the saga, since Sheperd and Graves had attacked Task Force 141 and secretly collaborated with Hassan Zyani.

Explanation of the post-credits scene

It should be noted that during the mission "Imminent Danger" in this game, Sheperd prevents the team from verifying whether Makarov has died, which ultimately leads them to have to go after him in the London tunnels, ending everything tragically with Soap's death.

Makarov teaches Price that you should not bury your enemies alive, a lesson that the captain seems to have taken as his own, deciding to kill Sheperd so that he does not cause any more problems (an interesting narrative decision that clashes with what happened in the trilogy of original games, since in those Shepherd murdered Soap and Ghost). On the other hand, this murder could indicate that Price will be persecuted from now on, but it is not entirely clear.

What is clear is that Makarov is still on the loose, and what remains of Task Force 141 will do everything in its power to hunt him down. Therefore, it is quite likely that Activision is already developing a future Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4, a last? delivery of this saga to finish tying up all the loose ends and satisfy the players who have been left wanting after this abrupt ending.
