GOTY 2023: which games are nominated for each category at the Game Awards?

 At the end of 2023, it's time for the awards and therefore for The Game Awards ceremony. Discover the nominees for the Game of the Year category.

The Games Awards are for video games what the Oscar is for cinema. It is during this ceremony which generally takes place in December that the best video games, in different defined categories, are elected. A few weeks before the ceremony, the games that marked the year are named, and it is up to the players to vote for the best game in its category. 

Obviously, the most prestigious category for a game creator, but also the entire team behind a game, is the Game of The Year. Like the Oscar for Best Actor and Best Actress, the game that wins Game Of The Year will go down in history. But the GOTY is not the only award awarded during this evening. More than 30 categories are present this year and in each of them, six games are nominated. Find all of this year’s categories.

Who are the nominees for the 2022 GOTY award?

In total, there are 3X categories in which you can vote for your favorite game. There is also a prize for the best adaptation in which we find series and films.

• Game of the Year: Recognition of a game that offers the best experience in all creative and technical areas. ( GAME OF THE YEAR )
• Best Game Direction: Recognizing a game studio for exceptional creative vision and innovation in game direction and design. (BEST GAME DIRECTION)
• Best Narrative: Recognizes exceptional storytelling and narrative development in a game. (BEST NARRATIVE)
• Best Art Direction: Recognizes outstanding creative and/or technical achievement in the field of art design and animation. (BEST ART DIRECTION)
• Best Soundtrack and Music: For exceptional music, including a score, original song and/or licensed soundtrack. ( BEST SCORE & MUSIC )
• Best Audio Design: Rewards the best audio and sound design of a game. ( BEST AUDIO DESIGN )
• Best Performance: Recognizes a person for their voiceover, motion capture, and/or performance. BEST PERFORMANCE
• Games for Impact Award: recognizes a thought-provoking game whose meaning or message is deeply pro-social.
• Best Ongoing Game: Awarded for outstanding development of ongoing content that evolves the player experience over time. ( BEST ONGOING GAME )
• Best Community Support: Recognizes a game for outstanding community support, transparency, and responsiveness, including social media activity and game updates/patches. (BEST COMMUNITY SUPPORT )
• Best Independent Game: Rewards the exceptional creativity and technique of a game made outside the traditional publisher system outside the traditional publishing system. ( BEST INDEPENDENT GAME )
• Best first independent game: Rewards a new independent studio that has delivered its first game. ( BEST DEBUT INDIE GAME )
• Best Mobile Game: Rewards the best game playable on a dedicated mobile device. ( BEST MOBILE GAME )
• Best VR/AR Game: For the best gaming experience playable in virtual or augmented reality, regardless of platform. ( BEST VR/AR GAME )
• Best Action Game: For the best combat-focused action game. ( BEST ACTION GAME )
• Best Action/Adventure Game: For the best action/adventure game, combining combat, movement and puzzle solving. ( BEST ACTION/ADVENTURE GAME )
• Best Role Playing Game: The best game is designed with rich player character customization and progression, including massively multiplayer games. ( BEST ROLE-PLAYING GAME )
• Best Fighting Game: For the best game is designed primarily around one-on-one combat. ( BEST FIGHTING GAME )
• Best Family Game: For the best game suitable for family use, regardless of genre or platform. ( BEST FAMILY GAME )
• Best Sports & Racing Game: For the best sports & racing game, traditional or not. ( BEST SPORTS/RACING GAME )
• Best sim/strategy game: Best game focused on real-time or turn-based strategy, including real-world simulation games. ( BEST SIM/STRATEGY GAME )
• Best Multiplayer Game: For exceptional online multiplayer design and gameplay, including cooperative and massively multiplayer experiences, regardless of game genre. ( BEST MULTIPLAYER GAME )
• Most Anticipated Game: An upcoming game that has shown great ambition and promises to evolve the gaming world. ( MOST ANTICIPATED GAME )
