Starfield: Is it better to ally with the Herald or the Hunter? Consequences and rewards

Although the decisions you make in Starfield cannot alter the ending too much, there are some very important decisions, and one of them is the one made during the main mission Unearth, which consists of allying with the Hunter or the Herald. This decision, although it does not affect the end of the game, does have consequences that you must understand.

Is it better to ally with the Hunter or the Herald?

The reality is that this decision only affects the enemy you will face later. Obviously, the Star you don't choose will become your enemy and you will have to face him in the future. In this context, the only "real" difference is the unique weapon you'll get by defeating each of them.

  • If you ally with the Hunter, defeating the Herald will earn you the Eternity's Gate, a unique version of Va'ruun's Inflictor.
  • If you ally with the Herald, defeating the Hunter will earn you Unmitigated Violence, a unique version of the Orion.

It should be noted that Hunter's rifle can also be obtained by forcing him to flee during the attack on the Lodge, so if your goal is to get as many unique weapons as possible, you should either join the Hunter or not join either of them. , since it is another option.

Is it possible not to join any?

Yeah. If during the conversation at the end of Unearthing, you choose the response "You're both wrong. It's time for someone other than the Stars to decide", then you will have to reiterate your decision not to ally with anyone. Then you will have to face both in the future. It's a more complicated fight, but logically you'll get both unique weapons from their cold, stellar dead hands. And for plot reasons, the truth is that it seems one of the most logical decisions that can be made, why deceive ourselves.
