Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is a game that, as we have already pointed out, is completely canon within the James Cameron film saga. Knowing this, it remains to be known when it takes place, especially if what you want is to know what films should be seen before you start playing, and at what point in the saga it takes place.

When does Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora take place?

The game takes place in two different moments of the saga. On the one hand, there is a part that happens right during the beginning of the Avatar (2009) conflict. That is, within the chronology of the films, part of the events happened in 2154. At a given moment there will be a jump in time and we will play in the year 2169. This means that this other part is played a year before Avatar 2: The Shape of Water (2022).

So, if what you want is to watch the movies and play in order, you would have to watch Avatar (2009), play Frontiers of Pandora, and watch Avatar 2 (2022). We left aside the tie-in of 2009, which functioned as a prequel to the original film.
