Enshrouded crashes on startup or black screen - what to do?

Enshrouded is a fairly demanding game, so be sure to ensure your system meets the minimum system requirements. If this is not the case, then you will most likely be able to run the game, but you will not be able to create a world.

Usually, it all comes down to a lack of random access memory (RAM). You can try increasing the page file on the system to work around the problem:

  • Open “System” - “About the system”;
  • Click "Advanced options";
  • In the “Advanced” tab, click “Performance”;
  • Go again to the “Advanced” tab and in the “Virtual memory” item click “Change”;
  • Select the drive (preferably SSD) and set the values to 8048 and 16096;
  • Click “Apply” and “OK”;
  • Restart your PC.

If the problem persists, you will have to upgrade your computer components to run Enshrouded. Please note that the game is in early access, so various bugs and glitches occur in the game. The gaming community notes the problem with a black screen as one of the most common problems that appear during the first launch. We have collected all the effective ways to eliminate it.

Disable scaling in NVIDIA Control Panel

If you are using an NVIDIA video card, you can try disabling scaling:

  • Open the NVIDIA Control Panel, then go to the "Adjust Desktop Size and Position" section in the left pane;
  • Select "Format without scaling", then make sure that "Override the scaling mode set for games and programs" is checked;
  • Click Apply, restart your computer, and check if Enshrouded starts.

Run Enshrouded as Administrator

In most cases, simply launching the game as an administrator helps solve the problem with startup and black screen. To do this, follow these steps:

  • Open Steam and go to your library;
  • Right-click on Enshrouded, select “Properties” - “Installed files” - “Browse”;
  • Right-click on the executable file enshrouded.exe - “Run as administrator”.

For the PC version of Game Pass, simply find the game in the Start menu, right-click on it, and select "Run as administrator."

Disable or change overclocking settings

Disable overclocking of your GPU, CPU, or RAM. Then run Enshrouded to check if the black screen issue goes away. If disabling overclocking helps, you may need to adjust your overclocking settings or eliminate them entirely. However, keep in mind that future updates to Enshrouded may affect stability, so be sure to stay tuned for changes.

If you're able to get Enshrouded running but are experiencing stuttering as you play, turn on the scaling mode in your graphics settings. We also recommend reducing the graphics settings to the minimum and then gradually increasing them until you find the optimal setting.

Check the integrity of the game files

The last tip to help fix crashes and black screens in Enshrouded is to simply check the integrity of the game files on Steam.

  • Launch Steam and open your library;
  • Find Enshrouded, right-click, and click Properties;
  • Go to the Local Files tab and click Verify Integrity of Game Files.

Error when creating a game in (Enshrouded Game Creation Failed Error) - solution

One of the problems encountered in Enshrouded is “Enshrouded Game Creation Failed Error”. Most often it is associated with problems accessing the server. Typically solutions depend on actions on the part of the host, but there are a number of other fixes.

Restart the Steam launcher

First of all, we recommend restarting the Steam client. This will not only end the game process, but will also allow the entire Steam system to reboot and download updates if available.

Run the game as an administrator

Something as simple as running as administrator can help fix a server connection error. In the previous section we already explained how to do this.

Check the status of Enshrouded servers

Follow the official Enshrouded accounts on social networks to stay up to date with the latest news about the game and receive information about possible causes of problems with its launch. In the official Enshrouded Discord channel, you can quickly receive notifications of any detected problems related to both the game itself and the state of the servers.

Restart your computer and router

If the troubleshooting steps you have taken do not work, it may be an issue with your Internet connection. We recommend trying to restart your computer and router, which may help correct the error and allow you to return to playing in multiplayer mode.

Check your server settings

If you are trying to connect to a dedicated server, make sure that the host has configured everything correctly. Setting up a dedicated server can be a bit of a hassle, so ask the server administrator to review the configuration files to make sure everything is functioning as expected. This will ensure uninterrupted connectivity for both the administrator and other server users.

Simplify your server password

Some players have reported that the error goes away when using a simplified password. Complex passwords with special characters can often lead to problems, so it is recommended to initially choose a simple password.

Error when connecting to the server in Enshrouded (Join Server crashing error MiniDump) - what to do?

The MiniDump error was encountered by a huge number of players until recently, but the developers have released a patch that fixes the problem. If you have downloaded the updates but are still experiencing this issue, try the following:

  • Join a friend: Right-click your friend's name in your Steam friends list and select "Join Game".
  • Check game files: Use the game file integrity check feature to detect and fix corrupted files.
  • Check your internet connection: Make sure your internet connection is stable as an unstable connection may cause connection issues.
  • Check the server password and configuration: Make sure the password and server settings are entered correctly.
  • Configure your firewall and antivirus settings: We recommend adding Enshrouded and the server software to your firewall and antivirus exceptions list.
  • Check server mod compatibility: If you use mods, it's worth checking that they are installed on your client as well and that they are compatible with the server.
  • Lower graphics settings: Lowering the graphics settings in the game will reduce the load on the system.

Error saving the world in Enshrouded (World Save error) - how to fix it?

First of all, we recommend checking for updates for the game. Since Enshrouded is in early access, the developers are releasing various small fixes that are designed to improve the project and fix various problems. In addition, make sure that the latest system updates are also installed.

Select the correct save file

Make sure the correct save file is selected for Enshrouded. Sometimes it may happen that the game automatically loads an older save file rather than the latest one. To fix this situation, you will need to manually locate and activate the required save file.

  • Launch Enshrouded and go to the main menu;
  • Select "Play" and then select "Private", "Host" or "Join";
  • At this point the game will show you a list of existing worlds. Check the date and time of each world and select the most recent one;
  • Click "Load" and check if your game world is saved correctly.

Use the Altar of Flame

The next step is to use the Altar of Flame, a technological device available after reaching the third level. The Altar of Flame allows you to teleport to different places and save your game world. To use it you must perform certain steps:

  • Create an Altar of Flame and place it in your base (you can also find it in the starting area);
  • Interact with the Altar of Flame and teleport to any location, but not too far from your base;
  • Wait for the teleportation to complete and then interact with the Altar of Flame again. Select the "Return to Base" option.
  • Check if the game world has been saved.

What to do if your character is stuck in textures?

Often your hero will get stuck in different textures. For example, if you climbed into the locked basement of a destroyed house, but you can’t get out or you don’t have a pickaxe in your inventory, use the following tips:

  • Find and break wooden obstacles. This is the simplest tip that will help you in most cases. However, it also happens that the same doors or wooden partitions simply do not break. In this case, you will have to use the following recommendations.
  • Dig your way. If you have a pickaxe in your inventory, you can always dig your way out. The main thing is that the condition of the instrument is sufficient for this.
  • Use explosives. Already in the early stages of the passage you will encounter looters, in whose pockets you will definitely find grenades and other explosives. They work well on building walls and soil, so it's worth a try.
  • Use fast travel. The last way to get out of the textures is to teleport to the Altar of Flame or to the previously opened spire. If you've wandered far enough, it might be a shame to lose so much research experience. However, this is better than sitting in textures.

How to increase FPS on weak PCs

If you want to try out the new product on weak hardware, be prepared to face some difficulties. If your computer does not meet even the minimum system requirements, most likely you simply will not be able to play. However, if the minimum requirements are met, we have prepared a list of recommendations to improve Enshrouded's performance.

Update your graphics drivers

First of all, update your graphics driver as this will help you get rid of various problems during gameplay. This can be done using the GeForce Experience (for NVIDIA video cards) and AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition (for AMD video cards) applications. You also have the right to download and install drivers from the official websites of manufacturers:

  • Download NVIDIA driver
  • Download AMD driver

It would also be a good idea to completely remove the outdated driver from your PC and perform a clean installation.

Use full screen display mode

You can use several display modes in the game, but we recommend sticking with full screen mode. In this case, Enshrouded will use the maximum amount of system resources, which will be useful for improving performance.

To avoid errors and problems related to User Account Control, you must run Enshrouded as an administrator. To do this, go to the root folder of the game, find the executable file “enshrouded.exe”, right-click and select “Run as administrator”. You can set this function as default in the file properties.

  • Press the key combination “Ctrl+Shift+Esc”;
  • Go to the "Processes" tab;
  • Track the tasks that consume the most system resources;
  • Complete the required processes;
  • Launch the game.

Adjust power settings

If your system is running in balanced power mode, the equipment is not using its full potential. It is recommended to set the high-performance mode, however, in this case the system will consume more power:

  • In Windows search, enter “Power”;
  • In the window that opens, select “High performance”;
  • Save the changes and restart your PC.
