The different types of monkeys

Your journey in the Disney Dreamlight Valley DLC begins at Ancient Port, but be aware that you will need to visit other biomes to complete the story quests in A Rift in Time. These new areas contain resources of their own, such as plants, minerals, and time-bending items that you will use to cook and craft items. You will also be able to meet different critters depending on where you are, like the cobras of the Shimmering Dunes that we told you about recently, but the animals that will greet you first on the Isle of Eternity are monkeys. There are 6 types of monkeys currently, but only 5 of them can be encountered in-game, with the sixth being a gift for people who purchased the DLC in the first week of its release. Each type of monkey appears in a different area of the port, and you can find out their availability below:

How to tame a monkey

Once you have unlocked the Ancient Port, you will be able to come across the different monkeys listed above. The first thing to do to approach them is to bring their favorite food: Banana Split. Unlike capybaras who are quite picky, monkeys will eat any type of dish as long as it is at least 3 stars. They'll probably enjoy most of the 5-star recipes, but they're die-hard fans of banana desserts, like Banana Split and Banana Ice Cream, the recipes of which you can find in our complete guide to Disney Dreamlight Valley recipes.

Once you have prepared a Banana Split, you can start approaching the monkeys. Unlike cobras, which must be approached delicately, monkeys are playful and expect you to run after them. You can tame them quickly by following the instructions below:

  • Follow the monkey until he starts jumping up and down
  • Run after him when he runs away
  • Repeat the operation two to three more times
  • Come closer to interact with
  • Give him a Banana Split

Once done, the monkey will give you a gift. Most often he will give you a Dream Shard, but he can occasionally give you a souvenir if you give him his favorite food. If you want to make the monkey your companion, you will need to feed it several times to unlock it, then assign it to your character from the Companion tab of the Wardrobe menu.
