Dragons in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom - Location and how to farm them

These are the routes of the 4 special dragons that fly around the map in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, how you can get on them, and how to get their valuable materials.

In The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom there are up to 4 special dragons that you will see often flying through the skies in different regions of Hyrule. These dragons should not be confused with the Griock, as they are quasi-divine beings that cannot be fought and that can actually provide you with certain invaluable materials for your adventure, as was already the case in Breath of the Wild.

In this entry of our complete guide, we want to show you the flight routes that each dragon has, its characteristics, how to get on them, and in what ways you can farm its different parts.

Pay attention and take good note, these are the 4 dragons in Tears of the Kingdom:

Elden - Fire Dragon

Elden - Fire Dragon

Elden is the great spiritual dragon of fire and soars through the skies along the top edge of the map, following a route that mainly runs along the northern section of Death Mountain, in Eldin.

In the following map you can see the complete route that the Eldin dragon takes as well as the two chasms through which it leaves and enters in each loop (the dark red route is the one it takes underground):

Elden - Fire Dragon

  • Eldin begins his route by leaving the chasm of the East Akkala Plain, in Akkala.
  • From there he heads around the Akkala Laboratory, in the northeast corner of Hyrule.
  • It then continues to fly over the northern part of Death Mountain.
  • Finally, Eldin ends his route by entering the chasm of the Nogla mountain range, north of the Great Forest of Hyrule and west of the watchtower of the Oumbra ruins.
  • Once underground, Eldin follows a very similar route to the one he does above the skies, but closer to the northern edge of the map until he returns to the initial abyss.
You must keep in mind that Eldin is the dragon of fire and as such his power is related to this element. You will need to protect yourself from fire and high temperatures when you want to ride this dragon.

  • From there it heads south-southeast to proceed to pass over the Namet Plateau.
  • It then continues over western Necluda, circling first Mount Ebon and then Hatelia village along the nearby cliffs of the northern bay.
  • Finally, Nayen ends its route by heading towards Mount Lanayru and entering the abyss of the Nayen Steppe , just west of the Mount Lanayru watchtower.
  • Once underground, Nayen goes north -northwest where the Rutela River is on the surface.

Faren - Thunder Dragon

  • Faren begins his route by exiting the East Gerudo Chasm, in the northeast corner of the Gerudo Desert.

White Dragon (Dragon of Light)

White Dragon (Dragon of Light)

The white dragon, also known by some as the dragon of Light, is a new type of spiritual dragon and could be said to be the most special of the 4 in Tears of the Kingdom as it is closely linked to the Master Sword. You will only see this dragon flying over the skies; He never goes out or goes into any underground abyss like the others.

In the following map you can see the complete route that the white dragon takes throughout the entire kingdom of Hyrule in each loop:

White Dragon (Dragon of Light)

  • The white dragonflies slowly in a wide circle across the sky of Hyrule.
  • This dragon's route covers each corner of the map and moves slightly away from the center of Hyrule.
  • This dragon passes around or very close to many of the watchtowers and geoglyphs containing dragon tears (souvenirs).
  • Since its route is very extensive , it may take you a while to locate it.
  • Keep in mind that the white dragon flies the highest of all the dragons in the game. Its altitude is initially very considerable , flying even higher than the Great Island of Dawn or the Temple of the Wind and the Temple of Water.
  • We advise you not to even try to reach it in your first few hours since it is practically impossible.
As we say, at first it may be difficult for you to reach this dragon due to its altitude. However, you can complete various tasks related to main missions to make it descend further and further until you are at a much more favorable altitude to reach it from one of the watchtowers.

Specifically, you must go through the Lost Forest, reach the Kolog Forest, and lift the dense fog so that the white dragon descends a little on its route. In addition to this, if you collect all the memories of the dragon's tears on the surface, you will also make the white dragon descend further. Performing these two actions should already be enough to make it easy for you to fly toward this dragon.

White Dragon Materials

These are the materials that can be obtained from the white dragon:

  • white dragon horn
  • white dragon fang
  • white dragon claw
  • white dragon scale
  • White Dragon Draconic Rock

How to climb the dragons?

How to climb the dragons

As you can imagine, getting on each of the dragons in Tears of the Kingdom is quite a challenge. These dragons fly over the map around certain regions and do so in loops from the beginning of the game (when you complete the Great Island of Dawn), although you probably won't be able to reach them until you are quite far into your game.

Below we give you some general tips so that you can reach the dragons more easily (in each section of each dragon you have more details):

  • Dragons don't have a set schedule: unlike Breath of the Wild, here you can't alter their routes by time passing or fast travel.
  • The duration of the flight loops: It is around 30 minutes of time for the three elemental dragons (the white dragon takes approximately 2 hours to make a complete revolution).
  • Elden, Nayen, and Faren: They have routes that start and end in certain underground chasm holes, meaning you can watch them go in and out of the chasms.
  • The white dragon is always in the skies: and he flies the highest of all, although he can descend as you complete certain main quests in the game to make it easier to reach him.
  • You can use the Watchtowers: to gain a lot of altitude and fly towards nearby dragons (we recommend unlocking them early if you are going after them).
  • You can also use zonnan gadgets: to build yourself flying vehicles that make it easier to climb toward the dragons (remember to increase the capacity of your battery so that they last longer).

In general, we must not forget that it is highly recommended to improve Link's resistance a lot to be able to fly with the parasail for longer and it is also highly advisable to complete the main story of the Orni to obtain the power of the wind sage, with which you It will be easier and faster to reach the dragons.

You can also consult the methods to climb the celestial islands since they can be put into practice in the same way to reach the dragons.

How to get dragon materials?

How to get dragon materials?

Spirit dragons cannot be killed and are unmoved by your presence, however, you can still collect certain very valuable materials from each dragon by reaching out to them and hitting specific parts of their bodies.

To obtain these dragon materials you just have to use a bow and arrows and shoot the parts that we indicate here:

  • Dragon Horn: Hit the front glowing horns on the dragons' heads to get it.
  • Dragon Fang: Hit the dragon's snout (the area around its mouth) to get it.
  • Dragon Claw: Shoot the claws under their body (not the nails, but what would be their "hands" or claws) to obtain it.
  • Dragon Scale: Hit any general part of the dragon other than any of the others to obtain it.
  • Draconic Rock: These grow around the spikes along their bodies and can also be obtained by hitting them.
Keep in mind that when you damage one of these parts of the dragon it will begin to glow intensely with white light and after a few moments a material will end up detaching from its body to fall towards the surface, leaving a visible trail that you can follow. If you are quick, it is possible to pick up this material before it falls to save you time.

It should also be mentioned that, unlike in Breath of the Wild, the dragons do not move away when you shoot their parts with the bow. They remain flying on their usual routes. Of course, you cannot farm their materials infinitely. After a few hits the parts will stop glowing to indicate that they will not give any more materials. If you wait 10 minutes, the dragons will recharge and return to deliver materials again.

What are dragon materials used for?

What are dragon materials used for

Dragon parts are very valuable materials. They can be sold at a good price to vendors, but they are really more useful as materials with which to combine our weapons or materials for cooking recipes.

These are the effects and benefits of each dragon material:

Fusing dragon parts with a weapon greatly increases its durability, gives it more attack power, and also imbues it with the element the dragon is related to (fire, ice, or electricity). For their part, food recipes benefit from adding extra hearts and increasing the duration of special effects by more minutes.
