Chapter 254 begins with a flashback (bad news) in which we discover Gojo, Nanami, and Meimei who talk about how strong and impressive Kusakabe is as an exorcist. Then, we resume the fight against Sukuna in which Kusakabe prepares to use his attack "New Simple Domain Shadow Style: Evening Moon Sword Design".
Sukuna recognizes the technique, but he wonders why Kusakabe is using it against him, who can send attacks from a distance. As Sukuna sends out dissections, Kusakabe fends them off with his katana. He thinks: “ Inside this realm, my occult energy production is amplified and the Sukuna technique will become weaker .” Kusakabe can add a fully automatic system that allows him to attack anything that enters his domain.
Even Sukuna praises Kusakabe, saying his reflexes aren't bad. Kusakabe managed to deal with Sukuna's blows by reading his "sparks" of occult energy, his movements and simply by instinct. And his domain makes this work even easier. But just as he was boasting about his punch survival technique by reading Sukuna's moves, Kusakabe is suddenly hit with another set of punches that he barely avoids. He realizes that Sukuna activated his technique without any movement! We again have a flashback in the form of an interview where everyone congratulates Kusakabe.
Nanami calls him an expert swordsman with a wide variety of techniques. Mei Mei says that Kusakabe is a useful man who can adapt to any given situation. Kusakabe senses that Sukuna is about to extend the target of his technique to use the Space Slicing Cut and immediately extend the range of his Simple Domain. Even Sukuna is surprised by this! Mei says that usually when someone uses a SD, they attract their opponents. But Kusakabe extends the range of his SD and brings the opponent into range. And he can attack anyone who enters his domain automatically.
Mei Mei also expressed her opinion of Kusakabe, saying, " He's the kind of exorcist I'd want to have with me on a desert island ." As for Kusakabe's burst attack, Nanami commented, " I don't know anyone who can block all of that. In fact, I even know someone who doesn't need to block it at all (Gojo) ." After suffering numerous attacks from Sukuna, Kusakabe's katana breaks, but he takes off his coat and decides to fight with his bare hands.
Chasing Sukuna, who he had sent flying earlier with a kick, Kusakabe wonders why he is trying so hard, which is not usual for him. He eventually realizes that it's because he feels indebted to Director Yaga. A long monologue about Director Yaga follows. Gojo, Nanami, and Mei point out that the main reason they recommend Kusakabe as the strongest Grade-1 wizard is because he is "Super Nice".
Standing in an honorary pose, Kusakabe pulls himself together, realizing that he must stop thinking about trivial things because children have been fighting for their lives. He then uses his new Shadow Style's "Hazy Moon" technique, forming an aura that mimics the shape of the remaining part of his broken katana.
Despite this, when he attacks again, Sukuna grabs the sword with only two fingers, commenting that Kusakabe aimed at his heart, where he is already injured, which is obvious. On the next page, we see Kusakabe on the ground, cut across the torso.
Ui Ui immediately arrives to save Kusakabe, but Sukuna was waiting for him, sliding up to him and commenting, " You're starting to become a nuisance. " Just as Sukuna is about to kill Ui Ui, Miguel arrives and instantly saves the little brother by Mei Mei!
When Sukuna says he doesn't recognize him, Miguel responds, "You must be living under a rock not to know who I am. These islanders need to hone their senses further."
