Alone in the Dark is a reimagining of the original 1992 game, where gamers take on the role of Emily Hartwood and detective Edward Carnby. Together they try to unravel the mysteries of the Derceto estate and rescue Emily's relative from a parallel reality. In this guide, we will describe a detailed walkthrough of the game, solutions to all riddles and puzzles, and also tell you about the location of all collectibles.


Chapter 1

Before starting the game you need to choose a protagonist. Note that the main actions and riddles will not change, but you will learn an alternative story of the hero. Also, when playing for different characters, you can find some unique collectibles.


When control passes to the player, go forward and enter the first pen on the left. There will be a lantern and a key on the chair in the corner.


Use the key you received and open the door to the greenhouse. There is no need to do anything in the garden yet. To the left of the giant tree there is a broken vase - pick up the housekeeper's key .

Chapter 1

From now on, you will encounter consumables: cartridges and drinks (first aid kits). We advise you not to miss them. In the back room with the bed you will find a note “Family Bible” . In the kitchen, enter the door on the right and in the far left corner, pick up the first item for the Rat Poison collection .

Inspect the kitchen for cartridges and go out into the corridor. If you go right, you will find yourself in the cellar. Here is a locked door, consumables and a “Tram Ticket” gift . Go back and open the room with the boiler. Examine the two puzzles to mark them on the map. Also take the note "Sabotage" .

Go up to the first floor using the stairs. You can pick up consumables in the restroom, and in the room immediately behind it on the wall there is a map and a key to the site . There is also a locked box with medicines here - it can be opened later in the story, but don’t focus on it for now. In the opposite corner of the room lies Lottie's diary .

To the left of the stairs to the second floor, open the door and go into the main house. Approach the front door, watch the cutscene. After it you will find yourself in Jeremy's room. Examine the table to the right of the chest. Take a notebook with notes and a painted tile . Place the last item in the box and assemble the image correctly.

You will appear in a parallel reality. Go outside, pick up the ammo to the left of the front door and get ready to face two enemies. At the intersection, turn right and enter the nook behind the building. Here you will find the first melee weapon , but at the same moment a monster will attack.

Go back and enter the establishment on the corner. Watch a long cutscene, at the end of which you will receive a bunch of Baptiste keys , and you will also be able to pick up the “Saved Reptile” gift on the table. Also, don't forget to check the room for ammo.


In such segments, players have the right to use stealth to avoid direct collisions with monsters. Use your own discretion. Exit the establishment and run left at the intersection, then right after meeting the monster. At the end of the street you will see a locked grate that can be opened with Baptiste's keys.

When you enter the courtyard, an enemy will jump out of the far door on the left. There will also be two monsters waiting on the second floor. Deal with them and go upstairs. Immediately after the stairs, turn right and pick up the Juju present on the chair .

In the room on the table, pick up the talisman - a key item that will be needed almost until the very end. Place it on the board and enter the numbers (from top to bottom): "358" . This combination can be seen in the note “Talisman diagram” .


Chapter 2

After a long cutscene, look at the table near the administrator’s room and pick up the “Seal” gift .

Open the door with Baptiste's keys and look around. Find the notes “Repairing the boiler” , “Broken plates” and “Information about workers and patients” on the table, as well as the key to room No. 6 , which will lie under the last document.

Behind the cabinets, find the “Rorschach Test” gift , the “Patient Files” note , and also examine the safe. On your first playthrough, you may not know the correct combination, but if you use it and open the safe now, you will receive a unique Alone in the Dark gift .

Safe code:

Please note that to open the safe you need to choose the correct numbers, and not count the number of times in one direction or another.

Since you picked up the key to room No. 6, you can open it and start solving another puzzle to get the first plate fragment . To do this, first inspect the room and find the note “Perosi's Journal” . With its help, you can choose the code for the locker yourself.

To do this, you first have to turn over three pictures, remember the names and find out in the picture behind the bed which numbers correspond to them. But it’s easier to use the ready-made combination for the locker (from left to right) and pick up the first fragment of the plate:

Now all that remains is to find the second fragment . Make it a little easier. To do this, return to the additional part of the house along the passage on the street and open the door to the right of the stairs with the Baptiste key. Immediately outside the door, pick up the note “Forgotten Plantations of Louisiana” and go to the next room. On the wall to the left you will see a locked cabinet with a double-barreled shotgun until you can open it.

Interact with the door to the greenhouse - the room will change. Follow to the opposite part of it and find a bolt cutter . Cut the chain with the lock and go outside.

Here, find a locked cabinet that can be opened with a bolt cutter to obtain a hose . In the opposite part of the yard, connect it to the main hose and turn on the water to get the second shard. Next to the statue, don’t forget to pick up the Mummified Cat collectible .

To avoid going around, you can install a ladder behind the cabinet with the hose and immediately climb to the first floor.

The talisman will point to a corridor with rooms on the second floor. Run there and enter Jeremy's memories. There will be a building to your right - skip it for now and run to the house on the left. On the ground floor, find a small closet with lockers. In one of them you will find the key to the first house that you just missed.

Go back to the first house, read the document “Oil Rig Report” and open the door behind the table with the key you found. This will give you leverage from the bridge . It can be used in the same place where you found the key. However, on the way back the hero will be attacked by a new type of monster.

Walk along the second floor, but do not go close to the window (this will trigger a cutscene). Instead, examine the barrels, between which you can crawl and find the Magic Palette gift . Return to the window to find yourself in a spacious courtyard with several houses. Kill the enemies and inspect the buildings. To get out of here, destroy the wooden fence.

There will also be three houses here. An enemy will appear in the hut on the right, but there are no valuable items other than consumables here. However, in the farthest house on the left you will find a gift “Gazing figurine” .

Then you can act in stealth or deal with all the monsters on the way. When you reach the tower, pull the lever and go up the stairs. Walk along the piece of wood, find a strong cloth at the top of the tower and go down the rope.

All that remains is to run through the swamps and enter the cave, where a cutscene will begin, after which the main character will find himself in a hospital.

First of all, examine the red bag on the floor that the protagonist found in the cave. You will receive the key to the living room and the key item “Palette Knife” - you will need it to open two doors in the hospital.

However, in the same room there is a door that you can open right now. Use the palette knife on the door and go inside. On the table, take the note "Instructions for the Barlow Lens" , the key to the cellar and the collectible item "Dog Collar" . Once you do this, the locker with the double-barreled shotgun will open on its own, provided that you have found the two previous items for the Lost Children collection ( Seal and Ink Pen ).

As soon as you try to go to the stairs, reality will change and two monsters will appear in front of you. Go down to the basement. You can interact with the door to the kitchen to watch a cutscene, after which this area will be locked for the rest of the game (the video will only activate in the detective scenario). You need to go to the wine cellar to open the locked grate with the key you received.

On the shelf next to the bottles, take the switch and insert it into the electrical panel on the left to turn off power to the basement. Having done this, take the valve from one of the barrels .

Since reality is still altered, you will not be able to go to the first floor - you will first have to use the valve on the boiler and examine the small room behind it. In one of the entries you could read a hint that this is where one of the lost parts of the plate for solving the boiler puzzle is located. By the way, this note will appear on the table next to the boiler as soon as you return back.

However, you still need the second broken plate, which is locked in the living room locker on the second floor. Return to the main part of the house, go upstairs and enter the door on the right. Here, examine the first room on the right - there is a note “A small request” on the table , and a little further you can interact with a children’s toy . Note that after interacting with her, you can exit into the hallway and re-enter to pick her up and receive the Jack in the Box gift .

Now enter the second room and watch the cutscene. On the table there will be a hint “Your medicine” and a bottle . The only thing missing will be the second medicine, which is hidden in a box on the first floor in the additional part of the house (we wrote about it earlier). But to open it, you will have to visit the main hall - you can access it using a palette knife.

Enter the second floor of the main hall, where a cutscene on the engine will begin. Remember the table next to which the woman is sitting - a little later, when she leaves, a collection item will appear here (only in the detective scenario).

However, right now you can pick up another Beignet collection . It lies in a dish on the cabinet on the left side.

You can walk along the first floor and open the doors that are locked on the back side. Take the clue “Ordinary Evil” from the fireplace . We also advise you to immediately go up to the second floor and pick up the “Light in the Distance” gift on the table where the woman was sitting.

Open the box and take the second jar of medicine . Return to the living room, place the jars in the correct order and keep track of the three numbers: "257" . With their help, select the zodiac signs from the diary, which will be the code to the locker:

Take the second plate and run to the basement to the boiler. Arrange them in the same way as shown in the screenshot below.

Interact with the pressure gauges on the boiler - here the numbers are “975” (in the second scenario the number may change). Use the talisman on the plate and enter this combination. A passage will appear in the wine cellar, and the hero will again find himself in Jeremy's memories, but this time in the cemetery.

Run forward to the locked door. On the left there is a statue with the first disk . Take it and insert it into the door, then turn it so that the arm is facing up.

Next, monsters will begin to appear, and you will find yourself at the chapel. To get inside, you need to find two more similar disks. From the entrance to the chapel, run left and go through the cemetery (there will also be enemies here), then enter the only open crypt. Not far from the entrance there will be a statue with a second plate .

Go outside and kill another group of enemies who broke out of the central crypt. You can then go inside and go down the stairs. There is a locked door here: place the plate with the bird up and the hand down as shown in the screenshot below.

Now run forward without stopping. There will be a lot of enemies, so there is no point in fighting them. The only thing you need to do is shoot several times at the spawning monsters in the narrow passage to unblock the path. At the end of the cave you will come across a third statue and you can pick up the last disk .

Note: In the chapter for Emily, nearby you can find a small passage right in the cave and find the “Notes” gift , which will be needed to open the alternative ending.

Once outside the chapel, you can go to the right and find the corpse of a woman. We did not receive any hidden achievement for this action, but if you succeeded, write in the comments.

Immediately after the hero ends up in the hospital, you will receive the “My Everything” hint and a luggage key (you can open the locked chest in Jeremy’s room). In the room with the dead girl, pick up another note “I must go back” and head to Jeremy’s room. From the box you will get a Barlow lens , which can be used on the telescope.

You need to adjust the lens so that a bright star appears on the right side. When this happens, stop interacting with the lens and wait.

For a moment you will find yourself in another room. Examine the slabs on the wall and collect the image of the constellation. Three numbers will appear, but you do not need to enter them into the talisman.

After a long cutscene, enter the library building and go up to the top level. Along the way, you can find a small hidden passage in the wall, behind which there is the Evil Unveiled collection . Here, in the hands of the statue, take the cross key , after which a new enemy will appear. It is useless to fight him: if you try to aim and shoot, the hero will blow his brains out.

Turn around and use the cross on the counter to pull out the ladder. Go down and wait for the enemy to get closer, then go around him using the bookcase.

Go down to the first floor and use the cross on the counter here as well. Climb higher, go around the enemy and enter the only room. If the enemy appears on the left, then run to the right and hide around the corner.

When he leaves, return to the entrance and use the cross a third time to go up to the elevator. Take the book in the elevator and watch several long cutscenes, after which you will automatically receive the Matchbox gift .

Walk around the building on the right - enemies will appear here, and you can also pick up cartridges for the machine gun (you will find the weapon itself a little later). Go back and run between the barrels and bags to the house on the left. Both doors are locked, so go around it and climb onto the roof.

The key to the tap hangs in the cabinet by the door . When you return back, a monster will jump out of the second door - enter and take the card . Also return to the fork, where there will be a tap on the right and a path to the water on the left. Run to the left and find the Ink Ribbon gift .

Go to the dock and use the key on the crane to move the cargo. At this moment, three monsters will come from below, and when you approach the stairs, three more will appear behind the hero. We recommend killing only the first two opponents, as they block the path, and then go down into the sewer, ignoring the rest.

There will also be a few enemies in the tunnel, but you can get past them and quickly run to the stairs. Once in the building, on the first floor, examine the boxes to the left of the front door - there is a gift “Severed Horn” here .

Climb higher and enter the manager's room. Read the note “All his things” , take the Tommy gun and open the safe - 4 left, 5 right, 4 left . Let us remind you that you need to choose the correct numbers!

Once down, get ready to meet a large group of monsters. However, here you can use Molotov cocktails to quickly get rid of them and not waste ammo.

The fog in the adjacent area will clear, but don't rush through the only door. There is a courtyard on the right - pick up ammo and the Behold the Black Pharaoh collectible here .

Go to the top floor and watch the cutscene with Jeremy. When he leaves, interact with the sarcophagus and enter the numbers (from top to bottom): "258" . Move away and wait for the sarcophagus to open. Go through it.

The puzzle is linear, so you won't have any problems. To begin, pick up the Canopic collectible in front of the statue and activate the lever to the left of it. Some lenses that refract light will become active, and bats will appear. A passage will also open on the left side of the statue - run there.

You will find yourself in a room with a pedestal and a lens. Interact with the lever, pick up the last one in the box and place it on the counter, then shine the light on the blue object above the door.

Go higher and immediately turn left. Bats will also appear here. To advance further, move the lens to the right side to open the far door.

Note: You can use the beam from the lenses to burn any enemies, including bats.

To begin, we recommend going to the left side to the stairs and going higher to find the “Children of the Dark Sun” collectible . It is in a small urn.

Run there and get rid of the wooden planks holding the doors. In the small room with the counter, activate the lever, shine the light on the box and pick up the star-shaped lens .

Go back upstairs and find the necessary lens carrier in the central part of the balcony. Point the beam at the door to the left of the large statue on the first floor.

Several enemies will come out of the opened door, so be on your guard. At the bottom of the temple, break the boards, activate the lever and direct the light into the next room. Then use the carrier in the next room to open the box and collect the Nether Shaped Lens .

All that remains is to transfer all the rays to the headdress of the large statue, then go up there and point the ray at the luminous object on the floor.

Go down and pick up the Dark Man's contract to complete the chapter.

The main character will appear on the landing near the attic. Go down to the first floor and run to the additional part of the house. Follow the direction of the greenhouse - look around in the last room. The collectible “Opera Playbill” often appears here .

In the courtyard, use the stairs to go up to the balcony and reach the main building. Go up to the second floor and go to the living room. If you play as a detective, a cutscene will now begin, after which the key to the 1st floor hall will appear on the floor . In Cassandra’s room you can now also pick up the “Cassandra’s Last Page” hint (it contains the code for the administrator’s safe on the first floor) and the “Script” collectible .

Head to the first floor and open the hall door. Three examination rooms will be available here. We recommend going straight to the back room, where the magician will come out when the door opens. Here, examine the wall and open the safe:

  • In the scenario for Edward: 6 left, 9 right, 3 left.
  • In the scenario for Emily: 9 left, 1 right, 8 left.

In the scenario for Edward, you will receive the key item Pikayune (coin) , as well as the note “Look for the girl . ” In the same room, do not forget to pick up the “Indigo Ashes” gift .

Run to the first room from the entrance to the hall and use the coin on the ventilation grille on the far right side of the room. Take the missing painting . Reality will change again. On the way to the living room you will meet several monsters - you don’t have to waste time on them, but dodge and immediately run to the door. The door itself will have to be freed from wooden boards.

City

In the girl's room you will see drawings laid out on the floor. Place the picture you found here and fold them as shown in the screenshot below.

When you leave the room, you will find yourself in another location. Examine the silhouette of the detective at the table, take the key from the desk drawer and collect three clues . Place them on the board and match them as shown in the image below.

Go outside and run through bright areas. Go into the building where there is a silhouette of Edward. On the second floor, examine the painting and try to go back. At this moment, a passage to the next room will appear in the wall. Kill the monster and go down to the street. There will also be several enemies here. You don’t have to fight them, but immediately run into the tram, and then close the door behind you.

In the park, look at the car with the silhouette of a detective, and then go to the gate. Monsters will break out from there - get rid of them and go into the building. On the table on the right there is a present “Curious Napkin” .

Go up to the top floor and solve a similar puzzle. Collect three items, then place them on the map in a certain sequence.

Pearl River

Follow the single path past the bridge and turn left at the fork. At the dead end there is a small abandoned building, and inside is a chest and the Blasphemous Totem collectible .

Note: Blasphemous Totem is the third collectible in the Hornless Goat set. By collecting all the items in this guide, you will receive an additional goal. When you have free time, return to the tree in the greenhouse and make an offering. There was a bug in the pre-release version of the game: nothing happened after the offering. We will update the guide later.

Return to the bridge and turn left at the fork. On the bridge itself you will see a girl - go up to her and watch the cutscene. The detective decides to raise the bridge and help the drowning people. To do this, go up the stairs to the upper level of the bridge and use the switch in the small guardhouse.

Leave the guardhouse and examine the railings on both sides. They are enveloped by the tentacles of an unknown monster - shoot at them. At the same moment, bats will appear that need to be destroyed.

Return to the pier where you appeared in this location and get on the boat. The hero will appear again in the hospital. To continue the story, you will have to open the safe in the administrator's room, Combination: 9 left, 1 right, 3 left .

You will receive the key to Dr. Gray's office . Go there and immediately open the door on the left. In the room behind it you will find the Flying Dutchman gift . In the office itself there is a clue “Cassandra's Things” , a key “France” (it can be used in the living room on the second floor to get the “Map of the Caribbean” collectible ), a clue “McCarfi's Pirate Treasure” , a note “Cure Jeremy” and a key to the stairwell .

The found key must be used on the grate on the staircase to get into the basement. Now you need to solve the X-ray puzzle (described in one section).

On the way to the stairwell, the hero will find himself in other locations several times. For example, in the main hall there will be a bar counter, behind which you can find the Ringing Shaker collectible .

Scenario for Emily. How to find a groom

In the scenario for Emily, from the safe you will receive the key item "Flash" , which must be used in the next room. In the same room you will find the “Photos from the War” gift , available only in the scenario for a girl.

By using the flash on the camera, you will find yourself in a new location, and the task will be updated. Run along the trench until the fork - there will be a dead end on the right. Keep running forward until you come across a large monster. To the left and right you will see small recesses where you can hide. Move secretly, otherwise the monster will notice the heroine and kill you.

After getting out of this trench, you will find yourself in a small location with an ordinary monster. Immediately after this, the big woman will appear again - go around it. You can, of course, deal enough damage to make her run away, but in our opinion this is a waste of ammo.

When the heroine screams that she needs to run, go to the door and try to open it. The door will be locked - pick up any weapon and empty the clip into the monster. Crawl forward and watch the video, after which the location will change.

Emily will appear in the basement of the hospital. There will be a locked door on the left, and you will have to find the key to it. Run in the opposite direction and wait for the flashlight to turn on - it is very dark here. To turn on the light, you will have to solve the electrical panel puzzle:

  1. Raise lever 4.
  2. Raise lever 2.
  3. Lower lever 4.
Now you can examine the room: in the closet, take the plans for the burial of Derseto (B) , on the table is the “Box of Cookies” gift , and in the drawer of the table is the clue “Closing the Shelter” . Next to the large map lies another part of the plan (A) . Place the plans on the map as shown in the screenshot below.

After a long cutscene, do not rush to leave the room. Return to the corpse and pick up the “Finger Tag” collection - it is needed to open the additional ending. you will find yourself in the basement where you need to solve a puzzle with x-rays.

Go to the only open room, pick up the clues “X-Ray Notes” , “Last Resort” and pick up the key to the operating room on the table . Here is X-ray No. 2 and fuse (1/2) .

Open the operating room and remove the fuse (2/2) from the device. Insert both fuses into the electrical panel, then activate the circuit breakers in the following sequence:

  1. Lower lever 4.
  2. Raise lever 2.
  3. Lower 1 lever.
Go into the corridor and open the far door on the right. Here is X-ray No. 1 . Return to the doctor's office and place both pictures on the stand. Select three pictures and place them as shown in the image below.

You will receive the key item "Jeremy's Darkness" . Leave the basement and run to the very top to get to the attic. First of all, we advise you to examine the far right corner of the room to find the “Piece of the Mosaic” collectible . Open the chest here, place the previously found item and add up the fragments. Use the medallion and enter the code "641" . A place will appear behind the hero where you can go down. Here the game will not separate the scenarios for Edward and Emily, so the further passage for these characters will be identical.

Note: If you previously collected three gifts for the Curse of the Heartwoods set (Alone in the Dark, The Magic Palette and Behold the Dark Man), now in the attic you can go to the loop and interact with it. You will receive the "Meta Ending" achievement.

Enter the only door and move deeper into the liner. Here you will meet a new type of monsters - we advise you not to get close to them, but kill them from afar.
