No Man's Sky: How to Find Black Holes and Use Them

We tell you how to find black holes in No Man's Sky and get the most out of them by making trips without suffering damage. One of the fastest ways to get to the center of the universe.

One of the fastest and most effective ways to reach the center of the universe in No Man's Sky is by using black holes. These anomalies are spread throughout different systems and many travelers use them to move quickly. In this post, we are going to reveal to you how you can find black holes and use them effectively.

How to find black holes

The main way to locate black holes in No Man's Sky is by going to the Space Anomaly and talking to the characters Nada and Polo to ask them to help you reach the center of the galaxy.

This way you can get black hole locations as a point of interest on your galactic map. Black holes, both entering and exiting, are usually located within yellow star systems.

Complete the Atlas missions

The main Atlas quest chain will eventually lead you to acquire the ability to see and locate all the black holes near your position on the galactic map. When you complete the Atlas missions you can activate a search filter on the Galactic Map that will highlight all nearby black holes.

Use black holes (safely)

Black holes are used to travel long distances in a short time towards the center of the galaxy. A black hole will always bring you closer to the center approximately between 7,000 and 20,000 light years, depending on chance and how close or far you are from it (the jumps being greater the further you are from the center and vice versa). When you locate the position of a black hole you can cross it to travel to another fixed system with your ship.

Be careful, because there is an important cost to pay for crossing a black hole, and when you go through one your ship suffers certain damage. Specifically, any technology modules you have installed in your ship's general inventory can be randomly damaged (requiring you to repair them after crossing the hole).

Avoid damage to black holes

There is virtually no way to avoid damage when jumping through a black hole. You can minimize it, though, because all the modules that are installed in the ship's technology inventory will not be damaged. These are several recommendations and tips that you can take into account to avoid damage from black holes:

  • Use a secondary ship: and not your main ship to make the jump, since this will save you from suffering damage to your best-installed technology.
  • Use scout and combat ships: to cross black holes. These two types of ships are ideal for these trips since they have large technology inventory capacities.
  • Move your most important modules: To the tech slot inventory, if you have space, to ensure they won't be damaged after making the jump through the hole.
And that's it. If you want to get to the center of the galaxy quickly, don't hesitate to use black holes. The community estimates that thanks to this method it is possible to reach the center in approximately 3 hours of play.
