Sphinx in Dragon's Dogma 2: where to find and how to solve all the riddles

 

The lands of Vermunda and Battala have many interesting characters with whom you can interact and receive useful rewards after completing quests. Among them is the Sphinx, a mysterious creature who has prepared 10 puzzles for the player. In this guide, we will tell you where you can find the Sphinx in Dragon's Dogma 2, how to solve all its riddles and complete the "Mind Games" quest.

What you need to know and prepare before going to the Sphinx

To successfully complete all the tests and defeat the Sphinx, you will have to prepare thoroughly. For your convenience, we have compiled a list for you, following which you can hit the road:

• Recommended character level is 30+. As you progress through the Mind Games quest, you will encounter many powerful enemies. The quest is divided into two stages, on the first level 20 is enough;
• The presence of two return crystals. The first one is needed at the main entrance to the temple. The next one will come in handy later, at the second place of the Sphinx. One can be obtained as a reward from the Sphinx after completing the riddle of madness ;
• 6 or more movement stones. Significantly speeds up the completion of puzzles. You will receive 3 pieces as a reward for the thinking riddle ;
• High level of relationship with non-player character. Romantic relationships will help in the “Mystery of Madness” challenge, which we will describe below;
• Mark the location of the first Finder Token found. There will be a 7-day limit for solving the thinking puzzle, which will prevent you from freely searching for this token;
• Sealing vessel (optional). It will help you solve the riddles “Futility” and “Difference” easier and faster. Found in the first chest of the Sphinx;
• Change specialization to "Archer" after solving the futility puzzle. This is the only option to defeat the Sphinx;
• Saved Arrow of Doom. You will receive this arrow for passing the memory test. You need it to defeat the Sphinx, otherwise he will simply fly away when his health is at a critical level.

Where is the Sphinx

To get to the Mount Temple, you need to go through a long path and several locations. Go to the place “Ancient Battlefield”, which is located in the northwest of the world map. It's safest to take the road east of Border Town. After walking along the road, climb into the castle and go upstairs using the spiral staircase. Once on the roof, use the stairs again and turn right, where the Grotto at the End of the World cave is located.

After passing through the cave, turn right into the next linear corridor. Then climb the stone stairs.

How to complete the riddles of the Sphinx

You will be given only one attempt to solve each puzzle, so we recommend that you familiarize yourself with the tests in advance. If you fail at least one out of ten, the “Mind Games” quest will fail. To start passing the first tests, stand on the pedestal opposite the Sphinx and start a dialogue.

How to pass the eye puzzle

After the dialogue, a stone door to a new location will open next to the stairs.

• Riddle: “The eyes live in alliance with us, but they also betray us. Eyes lie, so I am with you: I give advice, leading you into the darkness. What will your eyes tell you? Go through this door and take the most valuable”;
• Reward: Awakening Stone.

You need to find a sealing vessel, which is located in the chest immediately above the entrance. A non-player character can be imprisoned in such a vessel, and it will come in handy later. Return to the Sphinx, who, upon seeing the empty sealing vessel, will open the first chest with a reward for you.

How to pass the persuasion puzzle

After opening the first chest, talk to the Sphinx to choose the next task.

• Riddle: “Life is a mystery, what mortal debt lends to us. The lighter the burden, the faster we are. In order to avoid a terrible death, you must give the most valuable thing”;
• Reward: Given item and its copy.

You need to give the item by agreeing with the Sphinx. You can clone any item in the game, but we recommend using a Sealing Vessel. This will make it easier to solve the following puzzles.

How to solve the riddle of madness

There are several ways to complete the madness puzzle. If you are not sure of the answer, then create a separate save so that you can replay this quest.

• Riddle: “They say love is like madness. They are connected like the Sun and the Moon. So bring your love to me, so that I can measure the depth of your madness”;
• Reward: Return Crystal.

You need to bring a pawn or NPC with whom you have a close relationship to the pedestal. If it is a pawn, then the task can be completed in a couple of minutes, otherwise, you will have to go to your love interest and use the sealing vessel. You can save time by activating the return crystal. After this, return to the Sphinx, break the vessel, and confirm that this is your love.

How to complete the riddle of reflection

Quest with a time limit. There shouldn’t be any particular difficulties, especially if you’ve prepared everything in advance.

• Riddle: “You keep it first in your soul - and the very first thing with which you overshadow everything around you. I assume you are aware of the seeker's tokens? About some souvenirs from your travels? But where did you find the first one? Go back there and maybe you'll find something new. Seven days is enough, I guess? May your journey be pleasant";
• Reward: Move stone (3 pieces).

Place the Recall Crystal near the Sphinx and head to the Seeker Token you found first. If there is no such thing or you have picked up a recommended one, then go to it past the Breach Stone - Brotherhood. In the same place there will now be a finder token, which must be given to the Sphinx. Don't rush back, because you can immediately prepare the answer to the next riddle.

How to solve the riddle of wisdom

If you do everything in order, you should be close to the Breach Stone - Brotherhood.

• Riddle: “The parent knows the child, but the opposite is not true. For a child, a parent is a mystery - only a simpleton would not understand this. I am a lost child, and I yearn for my family. Give me the “parent”, friend, so that I can recognize him”;
• Reward: Rift Crystals (1200 pieces).

To solve this, you need to bring a special pawn created by the developers to the Sphinx. The rare Breach Stone is located in a small ruined tower. To successfully complete this you will need to hire a pawn with the nickname SphinxParent. To avoid searching for him blindly, select the character by adding a marker to the information viewing menu in the Rift. Return to the Sphinx and place the pawn on the pedestal.

After this, the Sphinx will fly to another place. Don't forget to pick up the return crystal if you've explored the entire location.

Where is the second location of the Sphinx?

Return to Border Town. You need a location to the west of the city, but getting there is not so easy. You can either go north, jump off the bridge, and follow the river west, then turn left at the fork. Or go south, turning right at any fork.

How to solve the reunion puzzle

You will automatically solve the reunion puzzle once you find a new Sphinx location. You can immediately open the chest and take 100,000 coins. We recommend doing this so that the next riddle is activated correctly.

How to solve the riddle of memory

• Riddle: “Questions beget questions, and there is one for you: how many riddles have you already solved? Memory fails, you know. Remind me, please. Let the statues be your keys. For each answer to the question posed, put one in front of me”;
• Reward: Arrow of Doom.

To the left of the Sphinx are stone statues. It is necessary to carry 6 pieces to the pedestal. Even if they are nearby, the quest will count. After the dialogue, take the arrow of death from the chest, which will be useful during the final battle with the Sphinx.

How to win a duel riddle

• Riddle: “Even though we have a battle of wits, you prefer a test of strength. Right? Come on, test your strength. Only he will be your opponent, not me. However, I am not one of those who is amused by a simple duel. Wear this ring into battle so that I can see your true power";
• Reward: Ring of Aspiration.

To pass, you need to defeat the summoned knight. However, Sphinx activates a ring that significantly reduces the damage dealt. To win, just throw your opponent out of the arena. If you are unable to grab him in battle, then use blows that will knock down your opponent, after which you can safely grab him and carry him away.

How to pass the riddle of futility

• Riddle: “How easily the mind becomes clouded! Those who say that grief is to blame, others blame darkness. It seems to me that something else is to blame. In my opinion, nothing harms the mind more than the realization that its most diligent efforts are nullified in an instant. Can you survive such despair?";
• Reward: Eternal Bond decoration, which significantly improves your relationship with the selected character.

To complete the quest, you need to take the fragile vase to Maurits in Bakbattal. It is located on a hill in the east of the city.

If you still haven’t changed your specialization, you can do it in Bakbattal, visited the city’s guild.

Since it is unrealistically difficult to carry the vase through hordes of enemies in one attempt, you can use the game’s capabilities and bring Maurits to the vase, for example, using a sealing vessel. Or you can grab the NPC and use the return crystal to instantly return to the Sphinx. Both of these options will activate the trigger and count towards the quest.

How to complete the difference puzzle

• Riddle: “The world is so huge and full of life, and you are only one of many in it. In this truly grandiose creation, we differ from each other like pebbles on the shore. However, we really like to extol our differences”;
• Reward: Bizarre dream.

You need to find the character shown and bring him to the Sphinx. The difficulty is that there will be two twins in the city. You need Virgil. It is located south of Border Town, near the stables. You can do the same trick as in the riddle of futility - grab Virgil and use the return crystal to instantly move to the Sphinx.

How to defeat the Sphinx

After solving all the riddles, talk to the Sphinx one last time. As soon as the dialogue ends, open the menu, equip the bow and arrow of doom, and then immediately shoot the wing. If you do not use this arrow, the Sphinx will fly away without opening the last golden chest for you. As a reward, you will receive an eternal awakening stone, which revives fallen allies nearby.
