The MMORPG Elyon starts this week with the release in the west. We will tell you what the game is all about and what you need to know before installing it.
What is Elyon? Elyon is a Free2Play MMORPG that emphasizes PvE and PvP content. The main focus of the game is the action-packed combat system, which is reminiscent of a mixture of TERA and Black Desert . The game was released in South Korea at the end of 2020 and is being implemented by Bluehole, the developer of PUBG and TERA.
In the west, the head start begins on October 17th and the release takes place on October 20th. In this article we will tell you everything you need to know about Elyon in general.

When does the release take place?
The release will take place on October 20th at 4:00 p.m.
What is the headstart all about?
If you want to start seducing Elyon, you can buy one of the pre-order packages. With these packages you get different cosmetics and 72 hours earlier access. The head start begins on October 17th at 2:00 p.m. There will be another maintenance on October 20th between 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. (the release time).

New MMORPG with action-packed battles from Korea
What is Elyon like? The focus of the game is the action-packed combat system. So you have to aim when you carry out attacks and also have an evasive role that you can use regularly.
However, the combat system is a bit slower and less dynamic than in Black Desert . Especially with the skills, there are often long animations that keep you in one position, which makes it more comparable to TERA .
In addition, there are a number of skills in Elyon that can free you from a stun or other CC. So here no “Wombo combos” are possible that defeat you in one fell swoop or keep you permanently in the CC, like in Black Desert.
This is how you upgrade skills: Another special feature of the combat system is the skills :
- You will learn skills over time, with the max level being 50
- You unlock certain passive and active skills via a skill tree, which has an interesting function. So you can move freely in the trees, but there must always be a connection and you can never go back down
You can then, in turn, customize these skills using a kind of artifact system. Each ability has different variations in terms of damage, effect, and even range. Some melee abilities turn into ranged attacks.
With this system, players should be able to use the same class, but interpret and play them completely differently. In this screenshot you can see the options that you have per ability. To unlock the variations, you have to level up, complete certain quests or buy them from the dealer:
What else is there about the progression? In addition to the skills and the skill tree, there are runes that give you passive bonuses. Here, too, you have various effects to choose from.
A final point in character development is the equipment with different levels and values, which also influences your play style.
The game has a strong PvP focus with 2 factions fighting each other
How is PvP structured? Elyon offers a variety of instantiated PvP content including:
- Arena 1v1
- Arena 2v2
- Arena 3v3
- Burning Temple, a special battleground
- Realm vs. Realm battles with up to 300 players
There is also PvP in the open world, but not every player likes that.
How does PvP work in the open world? When creating characters you have the choice of 2 factions, the Vulpin and the Ontari. These fight each other and that also in the open world.
In Elyon you can be attacked and killed in many zones by players from other factions. PvP with one's own faction does not exist in the open world. Pure PvE servers are currently not planned.
In PvE there are dungeons with rankings and many quests
What does Elyon offer in PvE? At the beginning of the MMORPG you will mainly be busy with quests and earn your first level. Instantiated content will also be added later, including
- 4 dungeons for solo players
- 1 dungeon for groups of 3
- 6 dungeons for groups of 5 players
Each of these dungeons also has a ranking list so that players can compare themselves with others.
In the endgame, in addition to the dungeons, you can expect daily quests, world events and a grinding that is a little reminiscent of Black Desert online. There is also a craft system. via which the players should also earn money, but a deep economic simulation as it is available in BDO, Elyon will not offer.
Is there housing? Yes, one of the side activities in Elyon will be housing.
What about mounts? There will be mounts in Elyon that will allow you to move faster. These are classic mounts, but also content with steampunk elements, such as motorcycles.
4 races, 6 classes and two of them dominate
What races are there in Elyon? The MMORPG offers you four different races that can be used by both factions:
- people
- Elves
- A - A compilation of various animal breeds, including rabbits and otters
- Orcs
What classes are there in Elyon? The Korean MMORPG comes to us with 6 classes. In Korea it started in 2020 without the Slayer, which was only added later:
- Warlord - A melee fighter and tank
- Elementalist - A DPS with a focus on magic
- Mystic - A magician who values support and healing above all
- Gunner - A damage dealer who attacks from a distance
- Assassin - A typical melee DPS class
The Slayer, also a DPS class, was only released a few months after the release.
Each class can join either of the two factions and comes without a gender lock.
How strong are the classes? In Korea the warlord and the slayer dominate the PvP at the moment, whereby at least in PvE the elementalist has a good position due to his strong magic abilities. We will be creating a detailed article on the classes in the coming days.

Item system depends on chance and a bit of Pay2Win
How does the upgrading of the items work? In this point, Elyon is roughly based on the system from Black Desert. So you will be able to upgrade your equipment and improve it. However, these upgrades can also go wrong, damaging your item.
In the worst case, this can also lead to devaluations. However, these can be prevented with certain items, similar to the cron stones in BDO. These items are also available in the real money shop.
The materials for upgrading the equipment can also be purchased directly in the in-game marketplace or in the shop, although there is a daily limit. Nevertheless, there is the possibility of taking a shortcut with real money in order to achieve equipment for which players otherwise have to grind a lot.
How is the game financed in general? Basically, Elyon is Free2Play. However, there are some useful items in the shop, including:
- Pets that help loot and give little buffs
- Warehouse / inventory expansions
- Premium buffs that you can already see in the pre-order packs
- Outfits
In Korea, the Elyon hype is slowly waning
How is Elyon doing in Korea? Currently, Elyon in Korea is still one of the top 30 most played online games. However, there it is behind MMORPGs like Lost Ark, Black Desert and Blade & Soul.
Actually, Elyon started with a high number of players, but some bugs during the release must have deterred the players quickly. Much of it should now be fixed.
Another problem is that it is not entirely clear which target group the MMORPG really addresses. There is PvE and PvP content, some of it is reminiscent of a theme park, but has not specialized in anything. That could be one reason why it is slowly but surely falling in the ranking at the moment.
