Hogwarts Legacy, how to find shiny animals and their lairs

Collecting animals is a fun activity in Hogwarts Legacy, and cultivating an ever-growing collection will allow you to upgrade your equipment with all sorts of features. However, why settle for just any version of an animal when you can spend time catching an extra special one?

If you've ever played a Pokémon game, you'll be familiar with the idea of shiny creatures. These animals are not particularly different from a regular animals in terms of gameplay, but they have a unique color and a special branding near the name. Some may find it useless but anyone who has spent the time catching one will testify to the satisfaction and joy…

HOGWARTS LEGACY: HOW TO FIND OUT IF AN ANIMAL IS SHINY

Most of the animals in Hogwarts Legacy will have color variations, but the shiny form is unlike any other. For example, a regular Puffleskein might be brown, gray, or red, but the shiny version is snow white. Similarly, a unicorn can be gold, but that's not the shiny form, since that is brown.

It can be hard to tell at first glance, but the way to be sure is to check the name tag that appears at the top of the screen when you discover the animal. If it's shiny, there will be a small four-pointed star next to the name and gender.

HOW TO CATCH SHINY PETS

Basically, this is a purely luck-based activity. We don't know exactly what the odds are, but it's totally a roll of the dice as far as a shiny pet appearing. This means that what you will have to do to find one is to continuously roll these dice making as many creatures as possible spawn, however, complicated it is.

The best way to do this is to follow these steps:

find the den of the desired animal
check if there are shiny; if there are none, capture some of the den animals
open the map and press the "Wait" key to speed up the time
save your game
reload the save you just created

This method will continually refresh the den with new animals, so you have more "die rolls" until you find a shiny. The cheat works for most of the animals in the game, but some may be more complicated. Among these is the unicorn: there is only one lair in the game, and while unicorns actually spawn there, there is only one at a time. Find the unicorn in Hogwarts Legacy by following our guide.

Another problem is the Graphorn. Again, these creatures respawn in their lair, but there's only one at a time, and plus you'll have to fight it every time you want to save it. Finally, the Phoenix. There is only one in the whole game and it doesn't respawn, so there is no way to get a Shiny version.
